The Self Portrait with Ingrid Morley
Term 1 2021: 9 Weeks
2 February – 30 March
10:00am – 4:00pm
Finding 3D form, not necessarily representative, from the mystery of the self image has held a powerful place in art history. Exploring and questioning ideas about identity has been expressed throughout time in different periods i.e.from the Renaissance (Bernini), German expressionists (Käthe Kollwitz) and the painter Frida Carlo.
Finding the basic 3D structure in clay through observation from your mirror image, prepare and construct an armature for your self-portrait. Set yourself up for your self-portrait, control light and collect essential information to inform your work – including the use of tools. Form up and complete a self portrait in clay.
Choosing to work with or without an armature is a choice, as you can work in relief (2D) or free standing in 3D. This choice can be discussed with Ingrid as your final work can either be kiln fired or cast in plaster or wax from a plaster mould.
Students must supply their own mirror.
Fees:
Earlybird: $700.30
General: $775.30
