SUMMARY:¾ Life-size Torso Sculpture Workshop with Georgina Mills - AM Workshop
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”10963″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=””]Monday 7 July – Friday 11 July \nMon – Thu: 10am – 2pm\, Fri: 10am – 3pm \nFees: $790.30 \nThis is an intensive workshop that aims at improving student’s observational skills\, sculpture techniques and knowledge of human anatomy and form. This course is specifically designed to introduce students to sculptural methods that help simplify the complexities of the human figure. Over the course students will sculpt from life a ¾ life-size torso with water-based clay. Group lessons and daily individual critiques will help to guide them through this process. Students will then prepare their sculpture to be kiln fired locally at their convenience. Students are to be aware that the kiln firing process can be unpredictable in results and the main goal of the workshop is learning how to improve their sculpting from life skills. Students can expect 13 hours model time. \nSome tools are available for use. Kiln firing not included \nOnly 8 places available for this special workshop. \nAbout Georgina Mills: \nGeorgina is sculptor whose practice explores the human condition through the representation of the figure. She has trained in contemporary sculpture locally at the Adelaide College of the Arts and Figurative Sculpture\, internationally at The Florence Academy of Art\, Italy.  At The FAA Georgina was awarded winter and spring scholarships (2017)\, Outstanding Performance in Écorché Sculpture (2017)\, Best Écorché Sculpture (2018) and the Forth Year Sculpture Residency (2019). Upon which she then became the assistant teacher in the Écorché for the 2019-20 academic year. \nHer work was been exhibited locally\, nationally and internationally and resides in collections over the world.  Some of Georgina’s proudest exhibitions of to date include European Museum of Modern Art; Barcelona (2019); Florence Academy of Art Faculty Show\, Florence (2019); Tom Bass Prize\, Sydney (2020\, 2022); Sheltering with Art\, Florence Academy of Art Faculty Exhibition\, Online (2020); The Main gallery\, Adelaide (2021); The David Roche Foundation House Museum\, Adelaide (2022) and as an online finalist in the Arts Renewal Centre Salon\, America\, 2019. \nThis workshop is now fully booked. Please email admin@tbsss.org.au\, if you would like to be added to the waitlist.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:4 Week Modelling From Life in Clay with Monika Scarrabelotti
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”9031″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=””]Earlybird Fee: $325.30*; General Fee: $360.30 \nJoin artist and teacher Monika Scarrabelotti for this popular Monday night workshop modelling from life in clay. Perfect for beginners and experienced artists alike\, this course is designed as a casual approach to regular modelling\, like life drawing\, where the aim focuses on improving your practice rather than completing a single “masterpiece”. \nEach Monday night will feature a different model and pose\, offering the opportunity to work on a series of small scale “studies” that can be completed within the three hour class-time. \nGuided by Monika\, participants will develop skills in understanding sculptural fundamentals such as form\, balance\, structure and proportion. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with various sculptural techniques and styles in each class. \nClass structure: Classes run from 6 – 9pm\, please arrive 5 minutes before class to allow for a prompt start. There will be a 15 minute tea break halfway through each class. Feel free to bring any snacks you may want for yourself or to share. The studio will provide tea\, coffee and milk. \nEach class will feature a different model and different pose (or various short poses). \nThis workshop is intended to develop skills and experience\, rather than completing a finished artwork.  Think of this workshop as life drawing for sculptors!  Each study will be completed in raw clay with no armature; those wishing to cast sculptures or prepare for firing can do so by enrolling in our open workshop classes. Materials and tools will be provided; a wooden board or box is recommended to bring sculptures home at the end of class/end of course. Included in the course fee is one 10kg bag of clay\, more clay will be available for purchase if required.  Participants with their own tools are encouraged to bring them along. \n*Early Bird discount available until 4 November 2024.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Term 1 - 2023: Double Figure Life Study with Jenny Pollak
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”8126″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]The relationship between two figures can give us a unique insight into the abstract possibilities of space and form. This workshop will encourage the student to look for new and interesting solutions to the challenges of depicting the complexity of two bodies in relationship to each other\, bringing a fresh eye to the exploration of rhythm\, negative space\, mass and balance. \nJenny will guide both the beginner and the more experienced artist through the process involved in working with clay from the life model. Students will be encouraged to push their work beyond a merely faithful representation of the body and develop a more personal language and means of expression. \nDuring this 8 week course students will have time to bring their work to a point where it is ready to be fired\, exploiting the facility and beauty of clay as a material that can be transformed from the raw and impermanent to a final and enduring sculptural piece. \nPictured: inspiration from Gustav Seitz\, Two Figures III.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Modelling from Life: a three-day intensive workshop with Monika Scarrabelotti
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”7105″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Wednesday 6 July – Friday 8 July (3 days)\n10.00 am – 4.30 pm\nFees: $355.30 (Earlybird); $395.30 (General) \nA quick\, intensive\, three-day workshop modelling from life in clay. Suitable for all levels\, this course will give beginners the chance to work on their knowledge of proportion\, anatomy and form.  While more advanced students will have the chance to explore compositions and gesture\, developing their own sculptural language in clay. \nThe first day of the workshop will include life drawing\, and completing a series of quick “sketches” in clay using a life model. In the following two days we will settle on a single pose to develop a more resolved sculpture.  This class will offer the option to work without using an armature\, giving participants the option to either fire or cast their finished sculptures in their own time\, if they so choose.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Sunday Life Study - Term 4
DESCRIPTION:Term 4 2020 Life Study Class with Jenny Pollak \n9 Sundays: 11th October – 6th December\n10:30am – 3:30pm \nBookings now open! \nIn a year that has required us to dig deeper into our inner resources\, this life study course offers the opportunity to find an expression for how we might physically represent emotion in the figure study. \nWhile bringing a fresh eye to the exploration of rhythm\, negative space\, weights and balances\, the student will be encouraged to consider how they might go beyond a merely representational description of the life model and draw out a deeper emotional interpretation. \nThis workshop will guide both the beginner and the more experienced artist through the process involved in working with clay from the life model. Jenny will encourage students to push their work beyond a merely faithful representation of the body and develop a more personal language or means of expression. \nDuring this 9 week course students will have time to bring their work to a point where it is hollowed out and ready to be dried for firing\, exploiting the facility and beauty of clay as a material that can be transformed from the raw and impermanent to a final and enduring sculptural piece. \nFees:\nEarlybird: $785.30\nGeneral: $875.30 \n(pictured above: Michaelangelo\, Atlas Slave)

SUMMARY:Life Study Term 1\, 2018
DESCRIPTION:The 10 week (11 day course) offers alternative technical solutions each term to solve the challenges of translating your work from an ephemeral study into a permanent sculpture. \nGain technical knowledge with an alternative mould making and casting method each term; ideally students will undertake both terms\, as the course material is set to build from one term to the next. However\, we can accommodate students who wish to only book for one term. \nThis course will not be conventionally run as it has over the years at the TBSSS. The technical applications\, e.g. Mould making and casting are traditional\, the understanding of this method in encouraged\, however\, the approach to this technical question changes each term\, keeping alternative methods of bringing ephemeral work i.e. in clay\, into a permanence\, alive with contemporary solutions.
