Announcing the Tom Bass Prize for Figurative Sculpture

In March 2016 an exciting new art prize – the Tom Bass Prize for Figurative Sculpture – will have its inaugural exhibition and will run every two years from then on.

The Exhibition will be held in Sydney to mark the centenary of the birth of Tom Bass AM (1916-2010) acknowledges the influence of Bass as one of Australia’s pre-eminent public sculptors.

Tom Bass had a particularly close affiliation with the figure and it is with this in mind that we have created the Tom Bass Prize. Participating artists will be encouraged to interpret ‘figurative’ broadly. However the inspiration should come from the figure.

There will be 4 Prizes awarded, all are non-acquisitive:
– The Tom Bass Prize – $12,000
– Highly Commended – $1000
– Viewers Choice – $1000
– Youth Prize – $1000

The Prize is open to professional and non-professional artists as well as youth.

Planning is well under way – the venue for the exhibition of finalists is Juniper Hall in Oxford Street, Paddington, Sydney. The Prize will run for 2 weeks, and have its opening night on 3 March, 2016.

Our judges are three prominent and diversified sculptors and educators in Australia. They are Richard Goodwin, Jim Croke and Claire Healy.
