Life Study: Sunday
Life Study with guest teacher Jenny Pollak
Term 2 – 10 weeks, Sundays 10am – 3pm
“Although the body has always been a constant and persistent subject of human expression, the various ways in which we choose to represent the human body continues to changes as surely as our understanding of the world around us evolves. As an artist I am interested in exploring the ways in which I can give voice to my experience of the world, and my main interest as a teacher is to encourage my students to develop their own sculptural language.” Jenny Pollak
This workshop will guide both the beginner and the more experienced artist through the process involved in working with clay from the life model. As well as helping students develop their skills in modelling the figure Jenny will be encouraging her students to push their work beyond a merely faithful representation of the body.
Students will be encouraged to develop a more personal language or means of expression by learning to look with intention. This exploration will be augmented by looking at the work of the great figure sculptors past and present. Drawing will also be used as a warm up exercise and to practice observational skills.
During the ten week course students will have time to bring their work to a point where it is ready to be fired, exploiting the facility and beauty of clay as a material that can be transformed from the raw and impermanent to a final and enduring sculptural piece.
