For Term 4, 2026, this term workshop runs for 10 weeks and students attend a 3-hour workshop each week. These workshops are for all skill levels and aim to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of all aspects of creating sculpture in a range of media.

Students are encouraged to create works they want, with teachers providing guidance and advice when needed. Beginners are welcome and will be guided through the fundamentals of sculpture, starting with a relief sculpture project and developing their skills with support from their teacher.

Students can start in any term throughout the year.

What you will learn and create

  • Beginners will learn how to create a relief sculpture in a style of their choosing over their 10-week term. You will model in clay, cast in plaster and then colour your finished relief sculpture.
  • Continuing students and experienced sculptors can advance and refine their skills while working on their own personal projects. They can explore different sculptural mediums, techniques and styles, including sculpting in the round, making an armature and creating more complex moulds.
  • Depending on the complexity of your sculpture, your work may be completed in a single term or developed over multiple terms. Your teacher will guide you through the process.
  • Our atelier-style studio brings together students of all experience levels, creating a supportive environment for learning, observation and shared practice.
  • All students, regardless of experience, develop confidence working independently across a range of sculptural media and gain practical knowledge of studio and sculpture processes.

Meet Your Teacher – Christine Crimmins

Christine Crimmins has been teaching at Tom Bass Sculpture Studio School since 2012, she teaches the Tuesday EVE and Wednesday EVE Workshops. Christine was increasingly drawn to the world of painting, drawing and sculpture, after earlier having followed a professional path.  She experienced 3 months in Sienna, Italy, studying painting and language and then gained a diploma from the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney, studying also at the Warringah Print Workshop.  In the 80s and 90s, she came under the tutelage of Tom Bass doing his master classes in sculpture and focusing on the…
