At the beginning of April, fifteen lucky students and TBSSS staff members had a wonderful opportunity to visit Crawford’s Casting for a guided tour and to watch the amazing process of bronze being poured into moulds.
Crawford’s Casting has catered to both local and international artists since 1976 and had a long history working with our Founder Tom Bass AM and continues to work with sculptors and teachers from TBSSS today.
Matt Crawford and other members of his team, kindly took the group through each step of the detailed and labour intensive process. From a clay or plaster positive, silicone rubber mould making, wax positive, ceramic mould, then the casting and finishing of a sculpture in bronze. It truly was a very interesting and educational experience for everyone that went along. We would like to say a huge thank you to Matt and his team for spending the time with our group, for answering all our questions and sharing so much of the process with us.
We hope to offer future tours in the coming months. Please get in touch, if you would be interested in this opportunity.
