Karen Alexander was invited to attend a Mentorship Program in August, at the Shaw International Centre for Contemporary Ceramics at Medalta Potteries, Alberta Canada. This 5 day intensive provided further enrichment for her artistic practice. Examining sculptural hand built formations and textural surface techniques.
‘This was an amazing opportunity to visit this historic clay district with a group of like-minded artists from across the sea. Learning many techniques that I can apply to my sculptural organic forms. I am very excited to explore possibilites and have lots of ideas swirling around, that I will be testing in my studio.’
This project was possible through a Quick Response Grant provided by Regional Arts NSW through the Regional Arts Fund, an Australian Government Initiative supporting the arts in regional, remote and very remote Australia.
“I wish to thank all those who supported me in the raffle held at the opening of my Exhibition, Embrace.”
Monies raised provided workshop materials at the program, as well as purchasing some new clay tools from Medalta. The raffle winners were Catherine Grealish, winning 2 small ceramic sculptures by Karen and Venetia, winning a 1 Day Soapstone Carving Workshop at KLA Studio.
‘I feel that the community at TBSSS continues to support each other, and is a wonderful hub for artists and students.’
