Unveiling of Green Square School Sculpture by Clover Moore, Lord Mayor of Sydney

greensquare2The TBSSS Emerging Sculptor Scholarship Program 2012 gave Susann Taylor and Peter Lewis the opportunity to embark on a public art project funded by the City of Sydney for a ceremonial sculpture to be installed at Green Square School, Waterloo.

The sculpture was unveiled by Clover Moore, Lord Mayor of Sydney on Friday, 19th September 2014.

Standing 3.5m tall, the stainless steel sculpture entitled ‘TRANSITION’ creates a place of ceremony, where milestones of the student’s journey and their aspirations are publicly acknowledged.

It was important for the sculpture and garden to be integrated into the School’s educational program that has a commitment to the communication of ideas through art.

Students of Green Square School researched the themes of the artwork including the indigenous owners of the land, built environment, and the natural history. The concepts for the sculpture, its form, its material and its finish as well as the surrounding landscape gardens was generated through this research.

Congratulations to Susann Taylor, Peter Lewis, the students and teachers of Green Square School on the finished sculpture.
