Workshops
Our workshop classes run for ten weeks with students attending a three-hour workshop at their preferred time. You can start on any term throughout the year. These workshops are for all skill levels and aim to develop your knowledge and understanding of all aspects of creating sculpture in a range of media. Those new to sculpture will learn alongside other students and are offered a structured, 10-week program learning the basics of clay modelling, plaster-casting and colouring to produce their own finished sculpture. More advanced students will develop their techniques and are encouraged to drive their own projects with the guidance of their teacher. Everyone is invited to encounter a unique artistic experience in an inspiring studio space!

Working from Life 2024
Term 2, 2024 – Working from Life: Portrait & Full Figure with Wendy Black
Tuesdays, 28th May – 25th June (5 Weeks), 10am – 4pm
Fees: $635, Earlybird*: $575
The life study was the foundation of Tom Bass’ teaching. He maintained that it was an invaluable class and was the best way to learn about sculptural form and structure of the human body. This course will be a fast intensive life study based on close observation of form, proportion and relevant anatomy. Students will develop a greater understanding of, as well as skills in clay sketching, armature making, modelling clay and sculptural language. There will be two different poses during the five days, one of which will require an armature and provide the opportunity to do a portrait if desired.
This course is intended as an intensive study, all our time will be with the model. Casting is not included in this workshop; students who wish to cast their work can do so by enrolling in a regular workshop class at the Tom Bass Sculpture Studio School. If you intend to take your clay home at the end, please bring your own board (30cm x 30 cm, min, 6 ply). Fresh clay will be provided so can get your studies fired after class if you wish.
