It’s a wrap – 2022 Tom Bass Prize

The Tom Bass Prize Opening Night Party for our artists, sponsors and special guests was held on Thursday 10 March at Juniper Hall, Paddington. The party was full of excited guests, having fun and full of anticipation whilst browsing the sculptures. Our special guests included many our 2022 finalists, donors, sponsors and partners mingled in the garden at Juniper Hall enjoying gin cocktails, generously sponsored by Four Pillars.

We were thrilled and honoured that Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC, Governor of New South Wales officially opened the Prize for 2022. Her Excellency was fascinated by the selection of works, and spent time speaking with the artists and guests before and after the official opening.

The major prize winners were announced by Sydney Contemporary Director and Judge Barry Keldoulis.

There were joint winners for the Tom Bass Prize ($18,000) this year! The Prize was shared by Maudie Brady (VIC) ($9,000), with her sculpture Muninn’s Fate (pictured above left) and Jess MacNeil (NSW) ($9,000) with her work Threshold (pictured above, middle).

Highly Commended Award ($5,000) – Fiona J Schoer Finding (VIC), with her sculpture Comfort in the Body (pictured above, right).

Curator’s Choice ($2,000) – Stevie Fieldsend (NSW), with her sculpture Song of Songs (pictured above, bottom left).

The Crawford’s Casting People’s Choice Prize ($1,000) – Paul Trefry (NSW), with his sculpture Old Charlie liked to dip his toes in the water (pictured above, bottom middle).

Congratulations to all the Winners and Finalists! And a big thank you to the finalist artists, judges, visitors, volunteers, as well as our sponsors, partners and donors who have continued to support and believe in the Tom Bass Prize.

The next Prize will be held in 2024, with entries opening in August 2023.
